Berlin by Foot walking tour: Friedrichstrasse In-Depth – Glitz, Glamour, Wars, and the Wall

On June 29, tour guide Jonny Whitlam will lead a walking tour about one of Berlin's most history-packed boulevards.

Few streets in Berlin have seen as much as Friedrichstraße. Once a dazzling boulevard of cabarets, theatres, and high society, it became a battleground of ideologies: scarred by war, divided by a wall, and watched over by spies.

On this tour, we’ll walk through a century of upheaval. We’ll see where Weimar Berlin’s brightest stars performed before the Nazis took over. Hear how families were torn apart in WWII and by the Wall. Stand by the site of one of the earliest Nazi concentration camps, hidden in plain sight. See cinemas that pioneered film history, a palace (kind of) where East Germany was born, and a certain sculpture that features Berlin’s largest… *ahem*.

Espionage, escapes, war, resistance, theatre, film, Friedrichstraße is all of Berlin’s history wrapped into one!

On this tour:

  • Hear the story of a Cold War murder at the hands of the Stasi, right in the heart of the city
  • Admire the most, well… striking sculpture in Berlin, and hear the story behind it

Meeting Point
Outside the Weekday Store next to Friedrichstrasse Station
