Been meaning to explore Potsdam from Berlin? Here’s your chance!
Just a quick train ride from Berlin — and packed with royal intrigue, dramatic history, and stunning architecture – Potsdam is a treasure waiting to be explored. This 3-hour walking tour is your perfect introduction to the city of kings, emperors, and eccentric genius.
The tour with guide Matti Geyer will begin at Potsdam Hauptbahnhof, where he’ll meet you at the Mc Donalds and lead you straight into the heart of Prussian history.
Please be at the meeting point at 11:00, we will leave at 11:10!
Ever heard of the Prussian general who helped Washington win the American Revolution? At Alter Markt and Neuer Markt, we’ll uncover his story while exploring the majestic Nikolaikirche, the reconstructed City Palace, the charming Old Town — and the film museum. We’ll also see what’s left of the old city canal.
Next stop: the Dutch Quarter, with its red-brick charm and quirky tales. Potsdam once had an army of giant soldiers — yes, really. We’ll pass through the Nauener Tor and dive into stories of the Soldier King and discover why Frederick the Great’s nephew earned the unfortunate nickname “Fat and Useless.”
Then it’s time to step into darker chapters of the 20th century as we pass the site of the former Gestapo, Stasi, and KGB prison — all in one eerie location. From there, we head to Potsdam’s own Brandenburg Gate and find out what connects it to its more famous twin in Berlin.
We’ll continue to the beautiful Church of Peace, where you’ll step into interiors made out of an actual13th-century Venetian basilica—and see the most muscular statue of Jesus you’ve likely ever encountered.
A short stroll through the palace gardens brings us to the highlight of the tour: Sanssouci Palace. We’ll climb the grand steps to the final resting place of Frederick the Great. Don’t forget to bring a potato. Along the way, you’ll spot fake Roman ruins, the Picture Gallery, pass by the elegant Orangery Palace (yes, a palace for plants!), and finish in front of the magnificent Neues Palais, Potsdam’s largest and most opulent palace.
From there, you can hop on a train back to Berlin, dive deeper into Potsdam, or keep wandering on your own.
Intrigued? This is your chance to experience Potsdam’s fascinating past—up close, in just a few unforgettable hours.
