Devoted to showcasing the best and brightest talents in theatres across Europe, the Berliner Festspiele’s spielzeit’europa has been bringing a wide variety of stage productions to the Hauptstadt since 2004. The festival began with a geographical focus – the 2004 edition focused on Hungary – but has since turned toward more abstract themes, with this year’s being novel and inventive theatrical methods of presentation.
The festival begins to gear up in November with two German premieres: Continu, a continuation of the piece begun by renowned choreographer Sasha Waltz in her Dialogue 09 – Neues Museum, and the controversial Un Tramway, a French-language remixed version of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire by the Polish provocateur Krzysztof Warlikowski and starring Isabelle Huppert as Blanche DuBois.
The November dates are just the beginning though; keep your eyes out for the revolutionary dance pieces looming on the program in December.
CONTINU Nov 11-14, 20:00
UN TRAMWAY Nov 20, 21, 23-25, 20:00
