On December 30, the Chippendales – those perfectly muscled entertainers with the g-strings, gyrating hips and winning smiles – began an almost two-week-long stint at Huxleys Neue Welt. We sat down with frost-haired Billy Jeffrey, a reality TV star and Chippendales dancer of seven years.
How does one become a Chippendales dancer?
There are some guys whose goal in life is to be a Chippendales dancer. Let’s say they used to strip at parties in college, and then they went and worked in a strip club – their ultimate goal was to be a Chippendales dancer.
What about you?
One of the scouts actually found me on a TV show and called me.
You’ve said you consider yourself a performer, not a stripper…
After you see the show, you understand that we’re not strippers, we’re actually performers. The last thing we do in this show is take our clothes off. You get to see this, this and this, and at the very end – boom. The shirt comes off.
So the ladies get a chance to fall in love…
We call it an emotional rollercoaster.
And then there is a finish?
Absolutely.
What about groupies?
We call them “Super Fans”; they’re Super Fans. I have this couple, it’s a mother/daughter combo that follows us – they bring baked goods and cookies.
Waxing?
Shaving.
We’ve heard you guys are playing instruments now?
We now have a Chippendales band: the curtain opens and all of a sudden we’re holding instruments.
Okay, I’m thinking: a bunch of guys playing onstage half-naked, women screaming fanatically… It’s Woodstock with less hair.
[Long pause] Umm… It depends on what number.
Are you out in the crowd, too?
Absolutely. The crowd interaction is the most fun. We run into the audience and surprise them. We come up from behind – they don’t expect it.
So women love it, right?
This is the ultimate girls’ night out: the chance for you to call your mom, your grandma, your best friends, your colleagues, your sister, your aunt.
Do you love what you do?
Name a better job for a single guy than being a Chippendales dancer.
