Seymour Gris: German savagery

Villagers in Saxony show once again the very worst side of Germany.

Enjoying the Berlinale? Immersed in the cosmopolitan Berlin bubble, it’s easy to forget about the rest of the country.

An incident on Thursday was a reminder of the scary stuff happening out there in rural eastern Germany. We Germans are still capable of some pretty barbaric behaviour.

In the video above, a bus displaying the word Reisegenuss (travel pleasure) is seen bringing refugees to a home in the Saxon village of Clausnitz, 250 kilometres south of Berlin. A mob of about 100 locals blocks the bus and tries to prevent the refugees from getting off and entering the home. They chant “Wir sind das Volk!” and jeer like blood-thirsty Neanderthals.

Watch what happens a minute into the video: a policeman brutally forces a terrified boy – probably about 10 years old – off of the bus in a headlock and drags him into the building. The approving mob cheers on the mishandling of a child. Men joyfully exclaim “Ja wohl!”

Wouldn’t it be better, for the sake of refugees, if they weren’t forced to live in such terrible places?
