WIR WAREN HIER: Electrifying noise-rock, opulently produced

Over a two-year break, German noise-rock trio Die Nerven have been cooking up their stellar sixth studio-album, 'WIR WAREN HIER'. ★★★★★

Still riding that wave of success from their last album two years ago, German fuzz-rockers Die Nerven are back with the equally noisy yet poignant sixth record WIR WAREN HIER to remind us that they never went away.

If you’re not familiar with this trio of noise punks, just picture a mix of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and My Bloody Valentine with a German twist. On their latest album, the band display the same vitality they’re known for and show they’ve clearly invested some of their pocket money in new guitar pedals.

Recorded in a Michelin-star restaurant on Stuttgart’s Schlossplatz, with views of the opera, WIR WAREN HIER exudes chic opulence. Seems like this is what happens when a punk band is well-fed.

Stand-out tracks include the epic ‘Wir Waren Hier’ and the hands-in-the-air song ‘ALS ICH DAVONLIEF’. Yes, Die Nerven, we know where you’ve been (it’s the 5-star kitchen, isn’t it?), and there’s no need to keep reminding us. ★★★★★
