Return of the scene: Watergate’s back at Sage Beach

After Watergate’s closure last year, the team behind the venue is back with a new open-air series.

After a year of mourning, Watergate is coming back. Under the motto “Don’t Stop the Dance”, the Watergate team is hosting four outdoor parties in May, June, July and August at Sage Beach on Köpenicker Straße.

Their tear-jerking announcement read: “After the last track faded away and the lights went out, we didn’t know when and how we would get back together. Now we know. We have the same team, the same energy and the same belief in unforgettable moments.”

For many, this is more than just an open-air rave: the club’s comeback is a sign that, even after the closure of its iconic location on Oberbaumbrücke, Watergate is not ready to abandon its hallowed place in Berlin nightlife.

The memory of Watergate’s closing remains a sore spot. The club was founded by Ulrich Wombacher, Steffen Hack and Nicklas Eichstädt on the banks of the Spree back in 2002, where it achieved a somewhat legendary status both in and out of Berlin.

After its closure at the end of last year due to rising rent costs, the club left a massive vacuum in Berlin’s nightlife. But this only makes Watergate’s temporary return all the sweeter – a triumph that shows how club culture can persevere despite the financial brawn of real estate firms.

Some of the party lineups are already confirmed, but highlights include DJ and producers Chris Luno and SKALA, alongside a back-to-back set featuring Basic Instinct and Aliska.

We’ll see you at the beach.
