Split Scale: Delicately arranged, classically composed

Brueder Selke collaborates with Midori Hirano for their newest record, Split Scale, which dissects elements of Ambient and Modern Classical music. ★★★★☆

Brüder Selke & Midori Hirano from Split Scale, released by Thrill Jockey Records.

With their own label and festival down in Potsdam and new releases every year, the prolificity of the Selke brothers (aka CEEYS) is seemingly endless. Living up to their reputation, the classically trained duo start the new year with a beautiful new record full of depth and emotion. For Split Scale, they’ve teamed up with Berlin-based pianist Midori Hirano, who is best known for her work on Erased Tapes.

Together, the artists have managed to create a haunting and impassioned work composed of keys and strings. Notes linger, while softly played strings teeter on the edge of moving the music forward. It all comes together in one delicate piece of music that marries ambience and sonic beauty, making this one of their most interesting and moving albums to date. ★★★★
