Back in 2023, Berlin sadly lost one of its most prolific musicians and lovable guys, Alland Byallo. Having moved here from San Francisco, Byallo established himself as a go-to DJ through his eclectic sets. He was also part of the international group KAMM, which consists of former Berlin resident Dave Aju, along with Kenneth Scott and Marc Smith.
On Let The Light In, the band shifts to a slower groove, blending elements of funk and jazz into a melodic lo-fi house record. As well as being beautifully melodious, the album is shaped by grief, such as on poignant tracks like ‘S.I.M.’ – whose chorus asks, “Where did you go?” – and ‘Angels Flight’. More than anything, it’s an album Byallo would have been proud of, a testimony and touching send-off to one of the city’s very best.
