This is your sign to start listening to more Berlin-based artists. High-energy techno, psychedelic surf rock from outer space, totally mind-blowing kiez rap, leftfield electronic that makes you rethink what music is and can be – there’s no much to discover and so much to love. Sifting through recent releases and sets can get intimidating since there is, admittedly, a ton of great (and sometimes not-so-great) material, so we do it for you just about monthly. Here’s our list of the best music recently released in the city.

Roberta Deflorio on Hör

Leading the renaissance of new-wave Italo disco, Berlin resident Roberta Deflorio has been lighting up clubs across Europe. The ToyTonics regular steps up to the Hör broadcast to bring a cutting-edge selection of nostalgic electro and synth pop. Rich in 80s flavour, the hour-long set cruises through magnetic moods and hypnotic progressions. Dark, euphoric and cinematic, Deflorio turns the broadcast room into a vibrant party, befitting both the dark rooms of a Berlin after-hours or a champagne Gucci showcase on the streets of Milan.

The return of shoegaze is officially upon us. Berlin-based quartet Pretty Average will release a debut album drowning in reverb and atmospheric textures. From Barcelona, the post-punk indie band is heavily influenced by the likes of My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, with a sound that swims beneath layers of effects and distortion, like a soundtrack to an uncertain, dystopic future. Lead singer Candy gently whispers ethereal dialogues about female identity in the modern era. It’s a raw and cathartic record that uses spatial effects to drift into other dimensions. Recorded using unconventional studio techniques and released only on cassette, the band are challenging the mainstream.

Lush R’n’B and neo-soul meets Anatolian folk with singer-songwriter D.$AHIN’s rich collection of heartfelt, vibrant pop music. She was originally part of the A Song For You collective, a vocal ensemble project of 30-40 people spotlighting BiPOC and diverse talent. D.$AHIN’s new EP combines elements of the singer’s Turkish heritage with the style and swagger that’s been overtaking the jazz clubs of London and Berlin. The result is a beautiful tapestry of traditional Anatolian pop and modern soul. The EP Sosun, which means ‘wildflower’ in Kurdish, is a culmination of D.$AHIN’s experiences, starting off busking on the streets of London to landing as a solo musician in Berlin. The resulting record is a cosmopolitan blend of continental sounds, framed by passionate vocals. From the lush opener ‘Surrender’ to the gospel soul sounds of closer ‘Say Something’, D.$AHIN stakes her claim as a voice to be reckoned with in 2026.

Sparks

Simon Goff

Renowned British producer Simon Goff is best known for his contributions to the soundtracks for Joker and Chernobyl. Now he combines the cinematic with lush electronics and moody synth in his new EP. Remixing songs from his previous album, Spark Like Living Mother, he summoned compositions from Pye Corner Audio, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Masayoshi Fujita and Anne Müller. Sparks showcases some of the most progressive works from today’s best analogue producers, centred around the deep and harmonic string work that makes Goff’s original music so stirring.

Arrival (Album)

Saturno 4000

With the arrival of intergalactic, psychedelic surf quartet Saturno 4000, Berlin finally has its very own take on Khruangbin. Combining Anatolian and Latin psych rhythms with hypnotic, spacey guitars, the band conjures up a whirlwind of international psych grooves. Singer and guitarist Julia Beresikowa fronts the band with her sultry vocals sung over instrumental disco beats and grooves. After several years jamming together across the city, the international funk collective’s 10-track debut album Arrival is a record centred on mysticism and galactic energy. It’s a head-first dive into the colourful world of psych-prog rock, incorporating heavy funk influences and a wide range of percussion. Arrival is the sound of spring parties at Klunkerkranich, of open airs: the worldwide beat of individuals influenced by a multitude of international eras of sound, brought together by the city of Berlin.

She’s Hearing Voices: HÖR: aufnahme + wiedergabe: 15Y (Mix)

As part of the 15th anniversary celebration for influential cult industrial label aufnahme + wiedergabe (headed up by Philipp Strobel), local selector and producer She’s Hearing Voices served up a slice of heavy dark wave and electronic sounds for broadcast channel HÖR. Delicately weaving her way through industrial, post-punk and experimental techno, all mixed seamlessly, She’s Hearing Voices was able to maintain a resounding dark, throbbing energy throughout the set. The result is a nonstop, cathartic, dance-heavy mix centred around her passion for crushing beats. Although not as profound as the other iconic acts on the label, She’s Hearing Voices holds her own with her dedication to sombre moods and high-octane, rhythmic energy. If you want to get in the mood for some bleak, downbeat, rough dancefloors, then this is the mix for you.

DJ UTA: Slow Caffeine (Show)

THFRadio

Bass-loving DJ stalwart UTA has been a fixed part of the city’s nightlife for well over a decade, but for her show on THF Radio, the non-profit community station broadcasting from former Tempelhof airport, UTA swaps late-night raves for early-morning vibing. During her monthly wake-up shows under the title Slow Caffeine, UTA curates a mix of dub, disco, post-punk and ambient moods and flexes her crate-digging skills, mixing AM grooves in with low-frequency, hip-shaking tunes just heavy enough to get the toes tapping while the coffee kicks in. The switch from night to day reflects UTA’s current career trajectory, especially considering her recently launched set of afternoon parties at Arkaoda, Sunday Service. For some more bass at breakfast, tune in for Slow Caffeine.

Music From Mullets: Asian Special (Mix)

Born from a love of digging through rare, obscure and far-flung record collections, Music From Mullets is the passion project of local DJs Frinda di Lanco and Hendrik Stein. Broadcast regularly on Cashmere Radio, the show focuses on the finds from their travels, where they spend most of their time crate-digging for some of the more sublime and international sounds. The duo – who can often be found behind the decks at Arkaoda – just returned from a tour of East Asia, bringing back a collection of dusty, new wave, disco and funk 7″ discs. Here, Frinda delivers a two-hour mix of genre-spanning dubs collected from Japan, Thailand and the Philippines, with styles that bounce between cinematic funk, classic wave, Asian soul and lots of disco. For those craving something that little bit extra, this delivers.

Flirt: RBL Berlin (Show)

Bringing real grooves to the radio, Berlin-based label Flirt Records is one of the regular highlights on RBL Radio. Broadcasting from both Turin and Berlin, web-based RBL (Radio Banda Larga) sets out to put community first, and nothing brings people closer together than classic, soulful, houseful music. Run by local DJ and producer Mystigrix, the label’s monthly show has featured eclectic talents Route 8, Crille & Tamalt, Selessa T and local garage and two-step specialist DJ Jana Falcon, among others. Specialising in uncovering new sounds, rare finds and warm grooves, all tied cohesively with a love for vinyl culture, Flirt is a tease for the ears with its refined selections and focus on great music.

Second Skin

Breakups are tough, and that’s why we have music to get through them. At least, that’s the premise behind underground tastemaker and techno DJ Nene H’s new album, Second Skin. On her new record, the Turkish-born, Berlin-based producer swaps her high-energy demeanour for a more reflective and sombre sound, filled with breakbeats and heartbreaks. Second Skin is an existential, radical-yet-intimate offering that details the pains of her personal growth, track by track. Using versatile and velvety textures alongside rolling electro beats, Nene H expresses greater depth and maturity on Second Skin as she sheds her old style and creates something bold and new. The album is a blend of experimental-ambient, house and bass music that works as a cohesive, sonic journey, from the sullen sounds of opener ‘Where was I?’ to the upbeat club beats on closing track ‘The Castle’. It’s a transformational record that reflects on the producer’s heritage while showcasing her musical depth, showing that even though breaking up is hard to do, something good can come of it in the end.

Lie Ning returns with another record filled with brooding and introspective R ‘n’ B. ‘Bullfight’ is a record deeply rooted in identity that embraces the artist’s challenges as a modern, queer, Black musician. Its key themes are born out of the fear of the rising far-right in Germany as he questions what it means for him and his community. On the title track, the part-time model and LGBTQ+ and POC ambassador delves into issues of trust, asking, “Is this a dance or a bullfight?” delivered in his trademark, chesty vibrato. With the new EP, the Berlin superstar manages to inject even more sultry swagger into this emotional, vibing and seductive music. It’s another testament to his overarching talent for creating rhythmic moods layered with his intensity and profound personality, produced with a look towards future sounds.
