Death by Gone’s ‘Descalator’: Rough, vulnerable and energetic

Berlin-based noise rock trio Death by Gong whip up an atmospheric, hard-hitting debut record with 'Descalator'. ★★★★

Even though they’re not technically a supergroup, with Death by Gong, a new noise rock band from Berlin featuring members from ZAHN, The Ocean and RADARE – some of the best names in experimental, post-rock sounds – you know something crazy is about to happen.

Here, on their debut record, the three musicians make a lot of noise that ranges between epic post-rock sounds, krautrock and dark, shoegazey grunge. The resulting music is energetic and rough with a touch of vulnerability that comes through on the tight and well-delivered vocals. It goes to show that you don’t have to be a supergroup to be super, and that talent goes a long way. ★★★★
