Blue Skies Motel: Introspection, intimacy, isolation

Máni Orrason's new album Blue Skies Motel touches on the quiet moments in life that we all need to pay attention to. ★★★★

Opener ‘Adore You’ is a meditative and tender prelude to a record that showcases a more introspective and stripped-down side of Máni Orrason’s artistry. The Icelander’s expressive, melancholic songwriting paired with soft guitar playing makes for an intimate listening experience that also evokes feelings of loneliness. In other words, this is an album that sounds like what the comedown from a giant party feels like.

Inspired by a poem of the same name by Robert Creeley, the album is a departure from Orrason’s previous upbeat synth album. This time around, Blue Skies Motel is all about introspection, intimacy and isolation – a record that touches on the more solemn and tender moments in life, something we all need to pay attention to. ★★★★
