Wei House: Friedrichshain’s best hidden Chinese restaurant?

Wei House is a little-known spot serving up Sichuan cuisine and dim sum to local clientele for years, and this hidden gem is seriously delicious.

Chinese food in Berlin has undergone a transformation in recent years, mostly thanks to a few well-known family-owned restaurants that have dominated Berlin’s food scene for a while (think Chungking, Wen Cheng, Bang Bang, and Shianu). And as the quality has increased overall, it had made it more and more difficult for any spot to send out: the best restaurants aren’t secret for long.

But in comparison to the well-known behemoths of Chinese cuisine, Wei House has flown under the radar. But this place shouldn’t be overlooked – their food is flavorful, the restaurant is inviting, and the service is impeccable.

The hallmark of Chinese Cuisine is its balanced flavor. Wei House expertly uses málà (Sichuan pepper) to create dishes that are sour and spicy. Just try their Chinese cucumber salad. But it’s not just Sichuan cuisine that Wei House does well. Dim Sum is at the center of the Wei House dining experience. Just make sure you stop by in the late afternoon/early evening when the dumplings are prepared fresh.

Most locals don’t just come for the food. They also come for the ambiance. The restaurant has opulent Chinese carvings that remind you of classic Chinese restaurants. And all dishes are meant to be shared, which makes this the perfect spot to bring friends and family for a fun (and filling) meal.

Between the good food, good ambiance and the friendly owners (who go out of the way to provide friendly service), you have a restaurant that’s really worth the visit – and might just become your new favorite place to eat.
