Thirsty for emancipation? Since March 8, selected craft beer bars across Berlin offer a new brew that aims to generate positive change in gender equality: Muschicraft.
Fed up with her beer orders being served to her male partner, Tschannett said “Fuck it!”
Originally from Vienna, the ambitious venture was founded by ex-social worker and activist Sophie Tschannett and launched, befittingly, on International Women’s Day 2022. Fed up with her beer orders being served to her male partner, Tschannett said “Fuck it!” (or “Scheiß drauf, oida”, to be exact) and decided to fight the bastion of manliness with its own weapons – by ingeniously slapping a big vagina on it and donating ten cents per sold bottle to women’s shelters in Austria.
So far, so good, but what does intersectional-feminist beer taste like? Maybe slightly alarming at first, the vagina label, designed by Tschannett herself, reveals a very quaffable, malty Pale Ale “Wiener Art” (not to be confused with Schnitzel) with fruity hints of melon and grapefruit, and – with a little bit of imagination – maybe even the sour notes of a certain juice…
Now, Muschicraft has its very own Berlin outpost, brewed by BRLO and donating the ten cents to International Women* Space (IWS) here.
With its all-around inclusive, ladies-first approach to drinking beer, Muschicraft is the hoppy extension of the Gendersternchen, so next time you’re thirsty, reach for a feminist brew (alcohol-free version coming soon) and watch the patriarchy tremble. Bosoms up!
