Lonely Hearts Cafe’s founders share their favourite Berlin restaurants

Amy and Nicola Phillips, the duo behind mega-popular Neukölln diner Lonely Hearts Cafe, let us in on their favourite places to eat out in Berlin.

“As Brits living abroad, we sometimes crave a proper curry, so when we’re in the mood for a cheeky takeaway, Guru Restaurant is our go to. They have a house specials menu with Jalfrezi that is to die for. The naan is also spot on.

No doubt, Feel Good Food by Omar makes the best falafel in Berlin. Omar is such a warm and cheery guy. He combines fresh ingredients and fusion creations. This is not just another kebab shop but a place where you feel at home. Seriously, don’t sleep on the falafel!

Mater Pizzeria Verace’s pizza oven has been run by various owners over the years, but the current team and their creations are a cut above. The dough is well prepared with fresh toppings that will transport you to Italy for a few hours. It’s the perfect spot to wind down after a busy week.

Photo: Love Deluxe

If you’re not at Lonely Hearts for brekkie, we recommend you eat at Love Deluxe. Their team created a small, curated menu packed with comfort creations. We’d love to eat there all the time.

Continuing with the Twin Peaks theme, sometimes you just need a good donut for your cup of joe. If we’re in the mood for something sweet and fluffy, we head over to Atelier Dough. They have so many creative flavour combinations, it’s difficult to pick a favourite.

Photo: Feed the Pony

Our sweet neighbours at Feed the Pony offer gorgeous and delicious fine dining without the pretentious notes. For those in the know, they also have some incredible recommendations for wines and whiskeys. They deserve to be booked out all summer!

And if there’s one other thing a Brit loves as much as a full English Brekkie, it’s a heartwarming pie. At Donau101, the steak and cheese is top notch, as are the sides. It’s got a really family-run feel to it and they don’t compromise on the quality of ingredients. Buttery, flaky pastry and comforting fillings smothered with yummy gravy – it doesn’t get much better than that.”
