Restorani Tbilisi

This restaurant is always bustling, a testament to the high quality of the food here. Georgian cuisine is widely beloved, and this restaurant boasts the classics. Try the hachapuri, a slightly spicy cheese-filled bread that can be served with egg. Pair your meal with tarragon lemonade or a Georgian wine.

Ars Vini in the Saatwinkel Ferry Building

Since 2003, cheese enthusiasts have adored this snug restaurant for fondue specialities. In addition to the already impressive selection of 20 different cheese fondues, the Ars Vini team also offers meat, fish, veggie and chocolate fondues. You can find them all at the historic Saatwinkel ferry house on Lake Tegel. Order the “gourmet fondue dinner” and savour it by a warm fireplace.

Schwarze Heidi Fondue Hut

Speaking of fondue: Jennifer Mulinde Schmid‘s Kreuzberg location is lovely, but the fondue hut on the RAW grounds is next level. There are two gondolas at the entrance, and the homely wooden hut has little red-and-white-checked tablecloths. The most important utensil is the fondue fork, which, after a traditional starter platter, is used to dip small bites of food in the lightly bubbling pots. Treat yourself to some cherry schnapps while you’re here – it’s in the fondue as well.

Schneeweiß

Schneeweiß’ completely white interior (lamps, tables, you name it) doesn’t impede the comfortable feeling at all. The long lounge couch, fireplace and Austrian cuisine all contribute to the cosiness. The high quality food is always made with fresh ingredients, and it is influenced by cooking traditions from around the world. Offerings include goulash, schnitzel, salmon tartare, soy roulade and pork belly with scallops.

Tadshik Tea Room

This Central Asian-themed tearoom isn’t exactly a hidden gem anymore, but it’s still a gem. The cosy interior was first exhibited at the Leipzig Book Fair in 1974 before it eventually found a permanent home in the Kunsthof. Here, guests relax on carpets and colourful cushions between hand-carved sandalwood columns and enjoy a tea ceremony around the samovar.

Café Bilderbuch
Café Bilderbuch (‘picture book’ in English) feels like someone’s living room, featuring well-stocked bookshelves, colourful armchairs, sofas and old floor lamps. This restaurant (café / gallery / library / cabaret) serves breakfasts named after fairy tales, and hot cocoa is on the menu all year round. A pinaist performs on Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as at weekend breakfasts.

Châlet Suisse

Châlet Suisse lies in the middle of the Grunewald, and they are known for upscale alpine cuisine and a classic wine selection, (mostly from France.) Interestingly, this restaurant has completely banned everything electric from the kitchen: chefs cook and grill over wood fires. Enjoy rustic dining inside by the open fire during the winter or in the shady garden in the summer.

Patio

Christopher Kümper has proven himself to be one of the most refined chefs in the city. His colourful plates are familiar, but full of surprising full-bodied flavours. His dishes combined with the lovely nautical interior are perfect for a romantic evening on the Spree, especially during winter.

Villa Neukölln

Villa Neukölln sits somewhere between a fashionable pub and vaudeville – think retro furniture, candlelight, well-priced drinks and a separate room that resembles a ballroom. On the stage (pictured above), artists regularly perform, while the rest of the bar offers plenty of opportunities to people-watch over a drink after work. In the mood for something more substantial? Try one of these restaurants in Neukölln.

Café am Neuen See

Trust us on this one – go get brunch with a few of your friends (old or new) and try the fluffy eggs, salmon and avocado toast near the fireplace with a view of the water. It’s easy to lose track of time wrapped up in conversation with the people you love, and this setting is seriously perfect. The only way this place could possibly be more inviting is if it’s raining (or snowing) outside.

Hotel Oderberger
The old Oderberger Straße swimming pool was recently renovated: it now includes a hotel and a cosy fireside bar. The bar team focuses on classic cocktails and their own seasonal and sustainable creations. Hint: go visit on a Thursday after 8pm for live music and sip your high-quality drinks in velvet armchairs in front of the fireplace.

Teehaus im Englischen Garten

This restaurant is nestled behind the beautiful Bellevue Palace in Tiergarten. It’s perfect for leisurely family outings in the park, and you can enjoy anything from breakfast to dinner as it’s open almost all day long. You can sit on the terrace during the summer and enjoy the beautiful setting, but it’s also a good option in the winter because of (you guessed it) the crackling open fire inside.
