Whether you’re searching for vegan restaurants in Berlin, plant-based street food, or dairy-free bakeries, you’ll find an impressive variety of choices across the city. After living here for a while, it’s easy to take Berlin’s vegan-friendly culture for granted. It’s only when you travel elsewhere and find yourself surviving on french fries for the third night in a row that you realise just how exceptional Berlin’s vegan dining scene really is.
And with that being the case, it’s really hard to pinpoint Berlin’s best vegan restaurants since there are so many good options available. For this list, we tried to find the best restaurant or shop for a whole range of categories and stuck to purely plant-based establishments. It’s put together by vegans, but it’s not just for vegans – it’s for everyone who wants to experience the best of what Berlin has to offer.
Perfect Pizza: Gemello
With their PBerg Pizza being one of Berlin’s 18 must-eat dishes, Gemello has to be our pick for Berlin’s best vegan pizza – and that’s really saying something, because there are plenty of delicious options in the city. The creations at this gem of a place are bold, complex, experimental flavour explosions that don’t just try to replicate a traditional pizza (because deep down we all know that vegan cheese still isn’t the same), but fully embrace being a thing of their own and they absolutely nail it. After just one visit, you’ll get it.

The Best Burgers and Fries: Neue Republik Reger
This was another category where we were spoiled for choice and struggled to pick one winner. Between its amazing poutine (another one of Berlin’s top dishes), quintessentially Berlin-lefty vibe, beer on tap and incredible burgers, Neue Republik Reger had to take home the prize for best burgers of Berlin.

Healthy Vegan Brunch: EasyPeasy
Hitting the other side of the spectrum, Prenzlauer Berg’s EasyPeasy is a great choice for those who want to eat an impeccably healthy meal, that’s every bit as delicious. The FLINTA*-owned business is famous for their breakfast staples like waffles and tofu scramble. Not only is everything vegan, it’s also 100% gluten-free.

Thai You’ll More Than Like: Li.ke Thai Vegan
Seriously good Thai food is hard to come by in Berlin, and seriously good vegan Thai food? It might seem like a pipe dream until you try the dishes at colourful Friedrichshain eatery Li.ke. Whether you choose one of their huge array of €5 bowls or one of their delicious bigger dishes, the only question will be what to order. We recommend bringing friends and trying a bunch!

Vietnamese Dream: Mom’s Vegan Cooking
In keeping with the Southeast Asian flavours, another spot to try just a stone’s throw from Alexanderplatz is Mom’s. Their vegan duck is amazing, but the real highlight is probably the Pho, which tastes exactly as it’s non-vegan counterpart – a difficult feat for a vegan establishment to pull off well!

Superb Szechuan Chinese: Tianfuzius
One of Berlin’s absolute best Chinese spots, Tianfuzius might make you question whether what you’re eating is definitely vegan – but don’t worry, it is. Their numbingly spicy Szechuan flavours are as authentic as it gets, despite the region’s cuisine traditionally being meaty. Whether you’re in it for the mapo tofu, tender eggplant or other delicious small plates, bring some friends to share with!

Although technically an all-vegetarian restaurant, Berlin’s own Cookies Cream offers an all-vegan menu in their Michelin-star awarded cuisine. Finding vegan options at fine-dining restaurants is rare, but at Cookies Cream, the vegetable rules in all of its colourful freshness.

Tip-Top Tapas: Alaska
If you’re looking for a fun place to share small plates with friends, this Neukölln classic is for you. The patatas bravas at Alaska are hands down the best thing that could happen to a potato. They’re so good, in fact, that they also made it to the list of Berlin’s best dishes. Their other vegan tapas are also nothing short of amazing and the interior is quaint and quirky, making Alaska a great place to spend a lazy evening with a few glasses of wine.

Masters of Mezze: Vegano Mezo
The Middle Eastern answer to tapas, the mezze, is the star at this little eatery. It’s not hard to find good vegan mezze in Berlin, but the ones here are a whole different category: perfectly prepared, flavourful, colourfully presented and not too hard on the wallet, either!

After careful consideration, The Berliner’s best vegan kebab award goes to the absolutely incredible creations at Friedrichshain’s doen doen®. And with the amount of vegan kebabs available in this city, ranging from the mediocre vegan option at your local kebab shop to scrumptious creations at specialty outlets, that really means something. doen doen® beats them all on every level: the bread, the sauces, the fresh roasted vegetables and most importantly, the well-seasoned meat substitutes – there’s simply no room for improvement!

The Sweetest Sicilian Pastries: The Sanctuary
Good vegan pastries aren’t too hard to come by, but great vegan pastries? Vegan pastries so good that you would never think they could be vegan? That’s just what you get at The Sanctuary, the vegan bakery to rule them all. Get your pistachio fix – it’s worth standing in the queue, we tell you!

Super-Duper Sushi: Secret Garden
Vegan sushi doesn’t just mean cucumber and avocado rolls at Secret Garden. Vegan meat and seafood alternatives, along with fancy ingredients like pickled pumpkin and truffle strips, make their sushi a real feast. The interior, elegant and refined, is reminiscent of Kyoto’s old town.

Artisan Vegan Meat: Die Vegane Fleischerei
This recommendation isn’t technically a restaurant, rather a shop, although they do have tables where you can try their delicious leberkase sandwiches! But the real stars are the fantastic faux meats you can buy at this Prenzlauer Berg specialty store. The vegan range of vegan meats is enormous and textures and flavours are impressively authentic. The only down side is that once you’ve given this shop a try, it makes it difficult to go back to the options at Lidl.
