As the golden days of summer fade away, Berlin’s culinary scene just keeps giving. From the nostalgic charm of German comfort food to the bold flavors of Japanese ramen, there’s something for everyone. This month, we’re highlighting four new spots that are worth exploring, from a stylish dive bar to a queer-friendly vegan café.

Clärchens Ballhaus has a new restaurant, where German grandma food – think Spreewald gherkins or the ridiculous Mettigel (a hedgehog-shaped assemblage of raw pork and onions) – are done with a fine-dining eye, quality local ingredients and affordable prices in a dining room evoking the roaring 20s.

Ringbar

This dive bar near Sonnenallee S-Bahn station has a rough-around-the-edges living room vibe but adds in natural wine and quality cocktails and an on-site gallery. The bar food is notable, too, with bites like chicken drumsticks and veggie-friendly options like arepas.

  • Ringbar, Schwarzastr. 1, Neukölln, details.

Earth Tokyo

Having already made a splash in Stuttgart and Frankfurt, this ramen joint now serves its slow-cooked broths just off Ku’Damm, too. Expect classics like shoyu and miso with superbly deep taste, plus a few novelties like “ramen olio”, with noodles tossed in flavourful oils.

Prince Peach

Aiming to be part café, part queer hangout, Kollwitzplatz-adjacent Prince Peach offers an all-vegan menu with formidably executed dishes that are, well, tough to make vegan, like NY-style cheesecake or shakshuka. Planned LGBTQ+ events include workshops, exhibitions and drag brunches.
