In December we made some delicious new discoveries. From eating in a former brothel to enjoying Nordic Tapas, check out our favourite new finds.
Fjord
Billed as “Nordic tapas”, small bites of seafood abound at this spinoff of nearby Norwegian restaurant Munch’s Hus. It’s a classy-but-casual spot to tuck into elegantly prepared dishes centred around cod, mussels and other marine delicacies.

Mored
Down a quiet side street in upper-middle-class Wilmersdorf, in what used to be a brothel and nightclub, you will now find “Mored”, the home of Yotam Alon’s Levant cuisine, made with a twist. The menu includes Jaffa Tatar, complete with pickled radishes and dried dates (Alon even makes the vinegar for his pickled vegetables himself). And its not just the food that will wow you, Mored boasts an impressive wine list and plans for 2024 include opening a speakeasy bar in the basement.

The Knast
Following in the footsteps of Sophia Rudolph’s Lovis, another former Berlin women’s prison is now also providing the setting for new cultural and culinary delights. The Knast in Lichterfelde-West opened its bar in early December, with a hotel and restaurant due to follow this year. The new location will be run by Janina Atmadi, previously of theNOname in Mitte. With bar supervisor Nuri Oh responsible for their delicious classic cocktails and innovative mixology.

House of Buns
British-style “Chelsea buns” (think a variation on cinnamon buns) are all the rage at this bakery counter. But beyond classic cinnamon, there’s also outré flavours like strawberry and pistachio, wrapped up in a fluffy, brioche-adjacent dough.

At Studio Natura, everything is made without refined sugar, artificial sweeteners or genetically modified organisms, and, believe it or not, it all tastes good! From granola to vitamin smoothies, plus sandwiches made from organic sourdough developed with traditional Neukölln bakery Markisches Landbrot, it’s easy to be good to yourself at this Mitte spot.

Run by the team behind Portier Coffee, Ayvy’s offers a wholesome menu of fresh juices, properly filled toasted sandwiches, soups and stews. From their hearty winter stew to their deliciously delicate vegan pistachio cake, the food at Ayvy’s is well worth a try.

Le Gâteau rose cake factory
The café Le Gâteau rose has opened a cake factory in Fürstenwalde, where you can watch pastry chefs Jana Büttner and Michelle Thiede create tarts, petit fours, cake pops, cupcakes, and pastries, as well as their eponymous pink cake.
