Into the woods: Lakeside Film Festival 2022

This cinematic summer camp returns to Brandenburg with cult classics, stoner comedies, live music and film quizzes.

It’s unsurprising that the Lakeside Film Festival – one of the highlights of Berlin’s open-air cinema season – is the brainchild of the Mobile Kino collective. For three days, the festival returns for its seventh edition at Klingemühle campsite in Brandenburg (a former DDR holiday camp).

The bucolic weekender will be sure to scratch the sensory itch on all fronts: the summer camp sees one of our favourite pop-up crews return to nature in style with a selection of the latest film festival titles, cult classics, psychedelic horrors, stoner comedies, documentaries and short films.

Ardent cinephiles can enjoy a break from the stuffy August multiplexes with a dip in the lake or a jaunt in the woods.

Also on offer: a stellar programme of live music, DJ sets, food stalls and film quizzes. As always, there will be a ‘vote for’ section, where the audience decides which film will be screened after being shown a selection of trailers from a specific genre.

Other highlights to look forward to are the short films selected by GRRL Haus Cinema and music curated by Lola Magazine. The festival’s pinnacle, though, has got be the chance to see Kenneth Anger’s (oc)cult 1974 masterpiece Lucifer Rising accompanied by a live DJ set – a woodland rite of passage for cinephiles.
