Zelenskyy visits Berlin, thanks Germany for support, almost loses his phone
The skies over central Berlin on Saturday evening were filled with a number of black helicopters flying in formation. This was the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy who was visiting Germany’s capital for the first time since the Russian invasion of his country in 2022.
Arriving in the city following a visit to Rome, Zelenskyy was greeted in Berlin on Sunday both by Chancellor Olaf Scholz and by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. During a joint press conference, Zelenskyy thanked Germany for its support against Russian troops, stating that recent deliveries of arms has been very important – while he also requested increased support, specifically of modern fighter jets, something Olaf Scholz was reluctant to promise.
Before he left, there was one final minor incident captured by a photojournalist which has surely happened to lots of us visiting Berlin. After charging his smartphone in a car, Zelenskyy forgot it. He got on a helicopter which was waiting to take him to Aachen. Unlike your regular Uber trip, however, when Zelenskyy’s phone was discovered it was handed to a policeman who managed to get it to the Ukrainian President moments before he was set to take off.
