Two stalls burn down at Alexanderplatz Christmas market

The Christmas Market outside Berlin’s Rotes Rathaus is known for its traditional charm and the ice rink where guests can enjoy the festive season by skating around Neptune fountain. On Tuesday evening, however, this scene was lit up in flames as two stalls near the ice rink caught fire and burned, with the dramatic event being shared on social media.

The operator of one of the stands was injured in the blaze, suffering first-degree burns to his hand and face, requiring immediate hospitalisation. A first respondersto the scene was also injured, though less severely, suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire may have been a gas canister which was in the sales stand. Police are investigating the events as a possible case of negligent arson.

By 20:43 on Tuesday evening, the drama was over, with the Berliner Feuerwehr tweeting that the fire was extinguished and the situation under control.
