Two missing men found dead in Brandenburg lake
The second missing person was found in the water with the help of a sonar robot.
For many, last Thursday’s Ascension day – which is often celebrated in Germany as Men’s Day or Herrentag – was spent at the lake with a crate of beer. This year, the celebration ended in tragedy for two young men who were reported missing after spending the day with friends at Großer Wentowsee, a lake in the Oberhavel district north of Berlin.
The bodies of both the missing 21-years-olds were discovered following intensive searches last week. It is suspected that they entered the water sometime during Thursday night. They were reported missing the next day and, while the initial search didn’t find anything due to poor visibility in the water, police already suspected the worst when they found the jacket and one of the men’s bags beside the water.
Despite a large scale operation involving specially trained dogs being taken out on the water in boats, the men remained missing until Wednesday morning when a passerby spotted a body floating in the lake. The second missing person was found in the water with the help of a sonar robot. Criminal police are conducting further investigations into the circumstances of their death.
