The dangerous tram intersection at Schönhauser Allee has struck again, this time hitting a 26-year-old cyclist who crossed in the direction of Wicherstraße. It is a notoriously dangerous and confusing crossing; however, the accident occurred due to the cyclist ignoring a red light.

The Berlin fire brigade was alerted to Schönhauser Allee at around 4:35 pm on Saturday afternoon. When the cyclist crossed the tram’s path, the tram driver initiated the hazard brake, but it was too late and the cyclist and tram collided.

The emergency stop also caused a 65-year-old woman on the tram to fall and injure her arms and legs, resulting in her being hospitalised. By pure luck, the cyclist was not injured.

Police tested the cyclist’s alcohol levels, finding that he had a level of about 0.03% BAC, which is still under the limit but does reduce the capacity to drive safely. The 26-year-old cyclist was also suspected of drug use. Therefore, police took him into custody for blood work, but he was then released.
