Tiergarten tunnel closed to car traffic all week
It is one of the most important traffic arteries in central Berlin, but from Monday to Friday this week, the Tiergarten tunnel will be closed to car traffic. The reason for the closure is scheduled maintenance and repair work, which will “ensure traffic safety in the long term,” according to the transport authority.
The closure began yesterday, Monday June 16 at 10:00, and is set to last until Friday June 20 at 18:00, with the repair work being carried out both day and night. Unlike other recent infrastructure works, however, this closure was pre-planned – not the result of inspectors discovering critical structural failures requiring immediate repairs (or the tearing down of a bridge entirely).
It is an inconvenience nonetheless — so if you’re planning a last-minute taxi to Hauptbahnhof this week, plan ahead.
