Tempelhof Airport to host club for two months
Starting this Friday, the old fire station at Tempelhof Airport will become a new cultural venue, hosting performances, workshops and club nights. A diverse programme has been planned, with several collectives each hosting their own nights during the trial run, which lasts until 18 October.
The opening night will feature a live concert, DJ set and club night, starting at 20:00. The Berlin Club Commission called for participation in the model project and received 216 applications from different collectives; six were ultimately selected. Events will range from Latin American music to performance art and electronic music.
The non-profit organisation Torhaus Berlin was part of the organisational team. They said they see the next two months as a trial project, demonstrating how new cultural spaces can be created not only temporarily, but also for the longer term. “Especially here,” they commented, “in Berlin’s largest public building.”
