Death at the lake: Swimmer drowns at Krumme Lanke
Emergency services were first alerted by bathers at one of Berlin’s most popular lakes shortly before 16:00 on Tuesday afternoon. Someone had gone under the water near the shore. Immediately, bathers started searching for the man, but they were not successful.
Later, a rescue helicopter searched the surface of Krumme Lanke and the shore around it. Fire department divers were then able to identify a young man and pull him out of the water. Although they immediately attempted resuscitation, these efforts were unsuccessful and the man died at the scene.
In total, 32 emergency personnel were deployed in an operation which lasted two and a half hours.
