It must be summer: Fight breaks out at Berlin outdoor swimming pool

Aggressive incidents are pretty common in Berlin swimming pools.

June 21 is the official start of summer, and there is no more sure sign that the hot season has arrived than news of a fight at an outdoor swimming pool. At around 19:15 on Monday evening at Sommerbad Pankow, an argument broke out between two young guests and two of the staff which then escalated to the extent that police were called to the scene.

According to reports, the incident seems to have descended into a brawl, with at least four security guards scrapping with around 30 young people who joined in. A few individuals suffered injuries, but only one 16-year-old male required hospital treatment for injuries to his arms and face.

Aggressive incidents are pretty common in Berlin swimming pools. Apparently, there have been 1,300 bans in the past five years for disruptive behaviour, with the most bans being given out in Pankow (211) followed by Steglitz (102) and Neukölln (94). In short, this isn’t the first and it won’t be the last. Enjoy the summer, Berlin!
