Berlin’s DDR-era amusement park in Plänterwald is set to reopen in the Spring of 2027. The park, which is run by a state-owned company, Grün Berlin GmbH, has been undergoing a complete makeover with a focus on sustainability, art, culture and nature. Many of the old rides, including their famous Ferris wheel, have already been dismantled, refurbished and reconstructed.
Grün Berlin has also constructed a ship jetty that will serve as another access point to the park. Providing alternative transportation methods is part of their sustainability goal for the park. The jetty has already successfully been used to transport people to the Eierhäuschen Biergarden and art spaces.
The state-funded development has come to a staggering cost of €126 million so far, a figure that may still rise in the coming years and will require visitors to pay an entrance fee upon its grand reopening. In the new Spreepark, guests can look forward to a range of third-party restaurants and kiosks for visitors to enjoy, as well as event spaces which can be leased on a temporary basis.
