Emergency services treated five people for minor injuries after a fire broke out in a high-rise in Spandau. Late last night, multiple 112 calls summoned the fire brigade to the residential building on Am Bogen in the Falkenhagener Feld district.
The fire burned down four cellars, with thick smoke quickly spreading up the elevator shaft to the top floors of the eleven-story building. While five individuals were treated at the scene, a BVG bus sheltered thirty other residents as the fire was extinguished, and everyone was able to return to their homes.
Emergency responders initially assumed that many more had been injured, due to the high number of emergency calls and the fire brigade’s use of the keyword “mass attack of injured”. The large-scale operation included a total of 87 emergency personnel.
However, the emergency response did not go smoothly, as the vehicles of arriving relatives blocked the fire brigade’s entryway to the building, causing delays. So far, there is no further information about the cause of the fire.
