Six people injured in stabbing at the Humboldt Forum

On Saturday evening, a brawl broke out near the Humboldt Forum on Museum Island, in the centre of Berlin. The exact circumstances remain unclear, but it appears that an argument between two groups escalated dramatically, with some individuals drawing knives. Six people were injured in the ensuing fight, including a 24-year-old who sustained life-threatening back injuries which required emergency surgery. The other injured men, aged between 20 and 26, suffered stab and cut wounds to their hands, legs, pelvis and upper body, and were also taken to hospital.

Police were called at around 21:45 and, upon arrival, they arrested two men, aged 19 and 20, as well as a girl, aged 14. All three were released shortly afterwards. No knives or other weapons were found at the scene, and police believe it is possible that others involved in the brawl escaped before officers arrived. All of the injured are also under investigation.

Reports have suggested that the two groups may have met earlier at Alexanderplatz, and that Saturday’s violent altercation could have been the result of an argument which began there. The 14-year-old has been placed in the care of child emergency services.
