S-Bahn access to BER Airport to shutdown for 2 months from September

Planning on doing some travelling this autumn? Expect your trip to the airport to become a little trickier come mid-September.

With the rather auspicious choice of Friday the 13th as the starting date, the S-Bahn’s S45 and S9 lines (which usually run directly from the city centre to the airport) will close for construction. Trains will stop running at 10pm, and construction work is scheduled to be completed about 3 months later.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the shutdown is necessary to complete repairs to tracks and bridges, as well as work on an electronic signal box in Schöneweide.

In addition to the airport connections, the S46, S8 and S85 will also be affected. Regional trains from Ostbahnhof and Hauptbahnhof will still be running, which means that you’ll be able to reach BER with the FEX, RE8 and RB23. Replacement bus services will also be available.
