Ringbahn restrictions continue, north-south line closed

Last Monday morning saw several restrictions on the Berlin S-Bahn, with no trains running between Nordbahnhof and Pankow-Heinersdorf. These restrictions will remain until November 13 with additional construction work set to take place on the north-south lines.

The S-Bahn has set up replacement bus services on all affected lines, with regional trains recommended for passengers.

The reason behind the interruptions is the implementation and construction of the ZBS train protection system in northern Berlin. The system monitors the trains during travel and triggers emergency braking if the train passes a stop signal. Test runs must be carried out before the system can be put into operation, therefore causing disruptions to several travel routes.

Additionally, those who want to fly from BER airport during the autumn holidays also have to prepare for restrictions, as the renewal of the tracks between Altglienicke and BER airport are set to continue through to November 8. Those affected are advised to use the FEX (Airport Express) or regional trains to BER.
