Friday 7, July – Update!

With less than 24 hours to go until it’s official start time, it has been confirmed that Rave the Planet will indeed go ahead this year, according to reports from DW. Because of last-minute issues organising on-site medical services, the techno street festival had been at risk of cancellation. But it looks like ravers can heave a sigh of relief, as the event’s managing director, Timm Zeiss confirmed a solution has been found.

Rave the Planet in danger of being cancelled

For some it was going to be one of the highlights of the summer. Berlin’s famous techno parade Rave the Planet, which was set to take place this Saturday is now in danger of being cancelled completely. The organiser announced at a press conference on Monday that the entire event is at risk due to them being not being able to find a medical service provider, claiming that the organisation they had lined up – the Malteser Sanitätsdienst – dropped out at short notice.

Apparently, Malteser see things differently. They deny there was any official commissioning and state that they never signed a contract for medical services with Rave the Planet GmbH. Rave the Planet agree that there was no official contract, but insist they had made a verbal agreement and were so far along with the detailed planning of the parade that there could have been no doubt as to the status of their agreement. Without a viable medical partner, the parade will certainly need to be cancelled.

300,000 people were expected to attend this year’s parade, the motto for which was set to be “Music is the Answer”- but whether it will go ahead, is still an open question.
