Berlin public transport has its own New Year’s resolutions – namely, to up the cost of travel. From January 1, fares in Berlin and Brandenburg have increased by 6% and almost all single tickets have gone up by 20 cents.

Travellers should be aware that BC only tickets are no longer available, as well as annual and 7-day tickets and the 8, 9 and 10 am tickets. The VBB has also discontinued the ‘65Plus’ subscription.

Berlin’s Ticket S (social ticket) has become more expensive and now costs €27.50 per month, a rise of 45%. In April 2025, the Berlin Ticket S, available for people receiving unemployment benefits, more than doubled from €9 to €19. The new price is now back to what it was in 2022, before the initiative to reduce its cost.

Senator for Social Affairs Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) has said, “My aim is to enable people on low incomes to continue to travel around our city at a reduced price, despite a tight budget and the austerity measures in the state of Berlin.”
