Police investigate suspected needle attacks at Matrix nightclub

Berlin police have launched an investigation into suspected needle attacks at the Matrix nightclub in Friedrichshain after nine people required medical attention on Wednesday night.

According to police, two young women reported pain in their upper arms and believed they had been pricked by a sharp object. Doctors could not rule out puncture wounds. Several others complained of feeling unwell, prompting emergency services to be called to the scene.

Based on witness accounts, two men aged 35 and 44 were taken into custody near the club. They were later released after officers failed to find any suspicious objects in their possession. Still, investigations continue – both against the two men and unknown persons, a police spokesperson told rbb.

The case follows a disturbing trend seen across Europe, where women have reported being pricked with needles in nightclubs or at festivals. Some incidents involve substances allegedly used to incapacitate victims. Similar reports surfaced just weeks ago at Fête de la Musique in France.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behavior at Matrix to come forward.
