What’s that smell? Police discover Moabit drug depot
The initial complaint was about water damage, but – when the fire brigade came to investigate an address on Heidestraße in Moabit – they were met with a suspiciously overpowering smell. When they called the police, those suspicions were confirmed: officers discovered boxes and boxes filled with cannabis.
Alongside the huge quantities of weed, police found various bags and vacuum-sealing machines on site. According to the initial reports, it does not seem like anyone was present when the discovery was made, but an investigation is now being made into the owner of the apartment.
Marijuana is set to become legal in Germany, with legislation expected to pass by early 2024. Even then, however, it will not be legal to possess anything like these quantities. According to the draft proposal, only people over the age of 18 will be allowed to carry 25 grams without fear of punishment – and it will only be available for purchase at newly established “Cannabis Social Clubs”.
