Ten people poisoned at Lichtenberg indoor surfing hall

Ten people were left poisoned by a chlorine gas accident at the indoor “Wellenwerk” surf hall in Lichtenberg on Monday morning, according to reporting from the Tagesspiegel.

According to initial findings by the Berlin fire brigade, the corrosive gas leak occurred at around 11:30am. It appears to have been caused by a technical defect. The danger didn’t last long, though, and the victims are in no serious danger. When emergency workers from the fire brigade arrived with special equipment, they were no longer able to detect any increased chlorine concentration in the air.

The visitors to the indoor surfing hall – the only of its kind in Berlin – were taken to hospital as a precaution after suffering a mild respiratory infection.
