One dead and three injured in high speed crash on Tauentzienstraße

A serious accident took place in the early hours of Wednesday morning on Tauentzienstraße in Charlottenburg after a speeding car lost control and crashed. The police described the incident as an “Alleinrennen”, a solo race.

According to fire department officials, the vehicle crashed into a concrete wall and caught fire after travelling at high speeds. A woman in the car was killed, while the driver and two other passengers were seriously injured. One passenger was able to escape the wreck, while two others had to be freed from the crashed vehicle by emergency services.

Some witnesses to the accident tried to help the victims in the moments immediately following the crash. Five of these first respondents also suffered minor injuries, while two police officers were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

The area around Tauentzienstraße and Ku’damm in Charlottenburg is well known for illegal racing – and tragic deadly crashes of this kind are a relatively common result.
