North-South S-Bahn tunnel running again
For the past six weeks one of the busiest sections of Berlin’s S-Bahn network has been shut down for maintenance work. 780 trains usually pass through the North-South S-Bahn tunnel each day, and they are running again after service was resumed on the line at 1.30 on Friday morning.
The first six weeks of 2024 have been a turbulent time for Berlin’s public transport. The BVG went on strike earlier this month, and the GDL union who operate the S-Bahn have already been out on strike twice in the six weeks that the tunnel was inoperative. If no agreement is reached, a new S-Bahn strike is already scheduled for next month.
