At around 1:30 am this morning, a 19-year-old man and woman were attacked after leaving the left-leaning bar Supamolly on Jessnerstraße in Friedrichshain. They were insulted verbally before one of the attackers pulled a machete out of his jacket, with which he first hit the man on the head.

The attacker then took the protective cover off the machete and attacked the woman. They both suffered injuries. A second unknown attacker beat the two victims while this was happening. Only when eyewitnesses intervened did they stop the attack.

B.Z. was the first to suggest that the attack was politically motivated, considering the couple was leaving a left-leaning bar, and the perpetrators are said to have shouted “Sieg Heil” during the attack. The two men fled via the Scharnweberstraße in an unknown direction.

The injured 19-year-olds were taken to hospital and further investigations are ongoing. It has been taken over by the Police State Protection of the State Criminal Police Office.
