Where would you stay in Berlin if you were king? Apparently, the same place you’d stay if you were the King of Pop. King Charles is in Berlin at the moment, and he’s pitched up at the Hotel Adlon, in a 185 square meter suite which with a round-the-clock butler and personal sauna.

Opened in 1907, the Adlon Hotel was largely destroyed in WWII. Most of the structure was demolished, with only a side wing still standing by 1984. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the new luxury hotel was rebuilt. And it’s become the preferred spot for the Royals when they come to the city. Queen Elizabeth during her 2004 and 2015 visits – but she’s not the only notable guest. The Dalai Lama and former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev have stayed there – as did Michael Jackson… famously.

It was from the Hotel Adlon where, in November 2002, the late pop star dangled his infant son Blanket out of the hotel window. Berlin history never stops.
