Kai Wegner’s Görli: “We want the fence as quickly as possible”

Despite major efforts and unwavering enthusiasm from Wegner and the Berlin Senate, it’s still unclear when the fence around Görlitzer Park will be constructed.

In a recent interview with the German Press Agency, Governing Mayor Kai Wegner talked about “legal delay tactics” on the part of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, who have been against the plans from the start. “The tender process for the fence is still ongoing,” he said. “That’s why we can’t give a date for the fence yet,” added Wegner. “We want the fence as quickly as possible.”

While a great deal of uncertainty still remains around the construction of the fence, which would close the park off at night, one thing is certain: It’s definitely not happening on schedule. Back in September, Wegner announced his goal to have the fence up at the beginning of 2024 at the latest.
