If you’ve been feeling the money pinch recently, it’s no accident. Inflation is on the rise in Berlin and Brandenburg. The Iran war has influenced high energy prices and driven the inflation rate significantly higher. Now the Berlin-Brandenburg Office of Statistics has released the exact results.
In March 2026, consumer prices were 2.5% above the level of the same month last year in Berlin. Statisticians claim that the increased energy prices are significantly to blame for the higher inflation. “They rose more expensive in Berlin by 6.7 percent compared to the previous year and by 8.5 percent in Brandenburg,” the Office of Statistics stated.
Prices have risen to above average for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, as well as accommodation and restaurant services. Canned fruit, coffee tea and cocoa are products that are significantly more expensive than a year ago.
However, contrastingly, some foods are currently significantly cheaper than a year ago. For example, butter is 22.9% cheaper than it was a year ago, quark is 21% cheaper, potatoes are 12.7% cheaper and milk is 5.2% cheaper in Berlin. So it’s not all bad.
