Hauptbahnhof to partially close for two months due to construction

Starting today until April 22, travellers at Berlin’s Central Railway Station (Hauptbahnhof) will face significant disruptions due to planned construction work. Instead of the usual eight tracks, only four will be in operation, leading to diversions and cancellations for many regional trains.

The work involves installing additional switches and new signals to improve flexibility and increase capacity. However, the project is extensive, requiring not only this two-month partial closure but also two full closures of the lower section: from March 21 to 24 and again over the Easter holidays (April 18 to 22). During these periods, long-distance trains will stop at alternative Berlin stations.

For detailed route changes, check with Deutsche Bahn. The S-Bahn, located on the upper levels, will remain unaffected.
