Berlin gravestones vandalised with pro-Russian symbol

Several gravestones at a cemetery in Berlin-Reinickendorf have been vandalised with what appears to be a pro-Russian symbol, as reported by Berliner Morgenpost.

After receiving a tip-off, police officers discovered nine gravestones smeared with paint in the shape of the letter “Z” on Sunday afternoon.

Since the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, a white “Z” has often been seen painted on Russian tanks and army uniforms. It stands for “za pobedu” (“for victory”) and has become a symbol of support for Russia. At the moment, it’s still unclear how these particular gravestones are relevant in Russia’s war on Ukraine.

According to police, several damaged gravestones, spray-painted trees and signs were seen in another nearby cemetery in Reinickendorf on March 16th.
