Berlin sixth graders have been preparing for months for a school trial lesson test that will take place today. If they do well enough, they will have the chance to move on to a grammar school.
Even with a grade point average of less than 2.2, the opportunity still applies. It also applies to students at private schools who want to change to a grammar school. If a student has not yet received a recommendation for grammar school from their primary school, they can prove their suitability during the trial lesson today.
The trial lesson lasts for three hours. During this time, their German and mathematics is tested, as well as the verification of interdisciplinary skills such as independent work, problem solving and team skills.
It will take place today at 12 Berlin grammar schools. However, the competition is high. Last year, 2,000 students registered for the trial lessons but only 52 were accepted to grammar school. Therefore, many parents have been helping their children to study using tasks from last year as practice.
The results will be sent at the beginning of March and if accepted, families have until March 12 to register at the school of their choice. Then they must wait, as students will only find out whether they were accepted or not on June 10, when notices of admission or non-admission are sent.
