But which of Berlin's fast food shops would the German President honour for his diplomatic Döner?

German President to bring 60-kilo kebab skewer on diplomatic visit to Turkey

The giant rotating spit of meat was frozen for transportation on the Presidential plane. Yesterday, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier left for a diplomatic visit to Turkey and brought with him one of the iconic symbols of German-Turkish relations: an enormous hunk of meat for Döner kebabs.

So, which of the city’s iconic kebab shops got the honour of preparing the diplomatic Döner? Might it be Schöneberg’s Rüyam? Pamfilya, up in Wedding? Would yet more attention go to Mustafa’s, following Kanye’s visit last year?

As a matter of fact, the honour fell to Hisar, the fast food stand which has been operating at the Yorckstrasse S-Bahn since 1986. Today, the Imbiss is run by Arif Keles, the grandson of the founder, and the Kebab shop owner will accompany the German President on the trip. “I see it as as a great honour,” the Keles told AFP news agency, “the President is taking me, as a grandson, to the homeland of my ancestors.”
