Four metre tiger python found dead in Hasenheide Park

A dead, emaciated four metre-long constrictor snake was discovered in Hasenheide Park underneath a tree, the district of Neukölln reported on Tuesday. An autopsy has been ordered on the snake in order to determine the cause of death, and also where the animal came from.

Snakes of over two metres are only permitted to be kept in Berlin with an appropriate permit, but no snakes have been reported missing, nor had the district issued any permission to keep a tiger python in that area.

The dead animal was first spotted by a passerby on Monday who reported it to the authorities. According to a press release issued by the district of Neukölln, it is not yet clear whether the python was still alive when it was left in the park, but it is unlikely that it would have been active or even able to move due to the cold weather conditions. The results of the autopsy are not expected until early next week at the earliest.
