Fire in Wilmersdorf: Two people jump from window to escape

Two residents jumped out of the burning apartment and suffered life-threatening injuries

Last night, a fire broke out in a residential apartment on the first floor of a six-storey residential apartment on Aachenerstrasse in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf. Before the arrival of the fire brigade, two residents jumped out of the burning apartment and suffered life-threatening injuries – one needing to be resuscitated at the scene. But the fire spread to apartments, too. Two people were rescued with serious injuries from the second floor of the building, while four others were seriously injured while attempting leaving via the stairwell.

The fire department tweeted pictures of the fire, as well as commenting that several other residents of the building were made aware of the fire by their smoke detectors and were able to leave the house in good time. In fact, a tenant from the ground floor noticed two people on the balcony of the burning apartment and used a ladder to rescue them.
